Junior Scholars – Learning Phonics with Leapfrog – Phonics factory

After a Quite Lon….g time,  I have recollected Phonics from teaching DD 1, 7 years before,. And now I am refreshing again with DD2. We have a phonis bus at home but was looking for something different for DD2 and Junior Scholars asked us to review  Leap frog letter factory Phonics.  This is a new version of the Fridge Phonics System and the Cute basket is a plus that keeps all the letters in one place unless you purposely hide them somewhere. heyyy… are all safe in the basket So I don’t have to run around the pieces.

Picture JS 1This comes in the Traditional Leap Frog green colour with White and has a cube for each letter in the Alphabet. So you get 26 cubes ( I am right Isn’t it, I have counted and confirmed with DD2). Each Letter has a song  and are designed big enough for the little hands to press. She needs a little help to keep the letter in place but eventually learnt it sooner than I expected.  She is good in Tidy up, so she makes sure she puts back as many letters as she can in the basket once she feels like having some rest.

JS LF Picture1

It teaches both letter sound and the Phonics sound a with a song. My cooking time song on most of the times now is  – “A say A , A says a …”,

There is a also a full Phonics song button and when pressed the Phonics song is played in full. DD 2 loves to dance for it now.

And, as a great addition, it does have a volume button so when you really want a peace of time while watching TV, You can let them play a bit far away from you and still watch TV without getting attracted and distracted to the Phonics 🙂

The one this that could have been  improved is  – if the letter had a magnet or the base had one,It  can go on some magnetic board or the fridge for a while  so they can spell their name or so and have some fun. And I could also teach a word for each letter. Otherwise it is a great Christmas Present for your little one.

You can buy this toy from Junior Scholars – Leap frog letter factory Phonics  at a retail price of 14.99. Junior Scholars also has a great range of Educational toys for your little one to get them engaged during term holidays, so you get some rest 🙂 and they also have a good collection for Special Needs.

Best Mum Vs Worst(est)!!! Mum – anybody out there

Just wondering whether there are any other Mums out there who are just the worst(est) mum  like me!

Well, Don’t look at me like that Please.. I have been the Best Mum as well MANY times. But only when I ask her Zip the Coat I would become the Worst(est) Mum.

When I give her a Choclate as a treat I am the Best(est) Mum, But When I don’t give permission for the second Choclate, everything that happened few minutes before will just be forgotten and I will be praised as the Worst(est) Mum ever in the whole world. I really like the way it is mentioned on both ends “You are the Best(worst)(est) Mum In the Whole World”

It doesn’t stop there though. When I bake with her few Cup Cakes I am the Best(est) Mum….. don’t forget to read it as ” Best(est) Mum in the whole world). But when I ask her to help tidying up the mess, You know what I would be! 🙂

When I let her watch TV for half an hour after school… definitely I am the Best(est) Mum with loads of hugs and Kisses, But just for that Half an hour though! :(, I willl suddenly be featured as a Bad Witch after that half an hour and will be declared as the Worst(est) Mum 😦

But, Above All, I still love being a Mum and enjoy every Moment of it…

Would love to hear from the Best (worst) (est) Mum around the world who are just like me.

Best Fit, Comfort and still Stylish – Clarks Shoes Review

I love Clarks Shoes. Best Fit, Stylish Look and still comfortable. I prefer to buy DD1’s School shoes from Clarks mainly because she is going to wear them longer during term days, she is going to walk with it, run with it and even sometimes cycle with it to school and not to forget – play with it in the park. So for me the main thing I look for her school shoes is comfort and best fit.

Clarks 1

And for both my daughters, their first shoes were from Clarks to make them get Confident on walking. I agree, Clarks are bit expensive but Whenever I buy from them I am sure they are worth it.

Now, As we are shivering in winter (heaters are already burning at home), I was in need of a nice shoes/boots for DD2 and it was  shopping time last weekend. How fast the kids grow. You will never realise until you see them exploring things on their own and show their interest in shopping what they want.

Our Nearest Clarks is a bit small in size but they do have good number of collections in affordable range. She loved all that is in Pink, glittery and ofcourse the one with lights on them. I could never imagine that the 20 months old would show so much interest and patience in trying different shoes oh her little foot. I should have captured the moment, unlucky, my iPhone died 😦

I feel more comfortable in measuring their feet and buying the shoes that just fit them perfect  and that’s one of the reasons I love Clarks.

Given a chance she would have taken everything home but we kind of convinced her with the Giggle Jog FST for now. These are the special features of this shoe.. more girly and that’s what is been liked 🙂

  •  An unashamedly girly look, these girls’ trainers from our First Shoes collection are great for little feet on the move.
  • In hot pink leather with pretty, glittery appliqués they fasten with two riptape straps for a secure, adjustable fit.
  • Kids will love the flashing Lights in the grippy rubber sole and the added benefit of antimicrobial Agion linings helps banish bacteria.
  • Available in whole and half sizes. “

She loves it and as with all the kids, forgot all the other shoes at home and pick this up for out and about.

Clarks has a wide range of collection on Kids Shoes and Boots  and you can browse them here at Kids- boots

Disclaimer: I was given a voucher to try out some shoes and used the voucher to part- pay this item.

Up for a real haunted house (just on Halloween day though ) – Hobbycraft halloween decorations review

Though I am still scared to open the Door on the Halloween day ( I don’t hate it though, I am just scared of monsters, devils and even spiders), My children love it – of being one of them (sometimes I feel they are always being monsters to me – not just on Halloween day – (Sorry, Not really a worst (est) mum )as well welcoming them home.

And to add to it, She was super excited when we got some Halloween decorations from Hobbycraft to try.  Who cares about Mummy Screaming at Night seeing a spider on the Window.

As DD 1 is planning to be a Vampire on the Halloween day, she was more happy to receive the Witches and Vampire fingers.  When I first opened them, I had a doubt whether it would be too big to fit DD’s fingers, but they were perfect and feels softer as well and had no complaints when we tried them on.  She is more happy to start scaring and looking forward to Halloween Night.

Witches Fingers

We have also been sent with few decorations items and one of them is Flies and Bats ! (I am screaming still ) Little DD is never scared of anything and loves playing with the bats and the flies.  Though I am still afraid to touch them, both daughters have fun playing with them .

And We have also received String decorations and Some Fright tape. The String decorations are  long enough that it would give a good coverage on your living room. I preferred to have it on the window and it looked very attractive.

string decorations

The Fright Tape features a series of ghoulish warning messages such as “enter if you dare”, Caution: zombie zone” and “Haunted: keep out!”. They are perfect for the door and has sufficient length.

Hobbycraft is great place to get you crafty with thousands of products and You will sure find everything you need.  They have all you need for this Halloween and you won’t be disappointed.

Do visit  Halloween section from Hobbycraft  as there is loads to choose from. They are also having a fantastic 3 for 2 offer.

Delicious Indian Food. how many of you are a fan of this?

Pepper Rice:

Though many of us complain about smelling curry – I should admit they are more healthy and every single Spice that goes in any recipe has something good it adds to the food. So, Once or twice in a month, smell the aroma and enjoy the taste of Indian food.

If you don’t like it hot, Make it blend – it will still be a treat to your tummy. If you think it is too spicy, there are options to avoid the spice you don’t like and still to retrieve a similar taste though it is not going to be the same. Sorry, But you can’t avoid pepper in Pepper rice though. I know, you will be sensible 🙂

Being a Mum of two and Stay at home Mum, I feel guilty most of the days when I don’t make an effort to cook something healthy and homemade But Just pack a quick sandwich in their lunch box. But whenever I have time, I think of some healthy and quick menu and today was one of those days – and I made Pepper Rice for both office and school lunch box

It was quick and delicious and would like to share it if anyone wants to give it a try.

Cooking Rice

1. A cup of rice

2. Pinch of salt.

3. Any oil – you an use sun flower oil, Olive oil or Sesame oil.  Sesame oil goes well with it.

To roast

1. 1 tablespoon black peppercorns – powdered. (you can add more if you want a strong smell of pepper and more hot and spicy)

2. 1 – 2 dry red chillies small one – as needed

3. 1/2 tea spoon of Urad dhal whole

4. 1/2 tea spoon Jeera

5. 1 and 1/2 Table Spoon Ghee. If you don’t have Ghee, then 1 table spoon Butter

6.  5 currly leaves

7.  2 -3 cashews (optional)

To make Pepper Rice

  • Cook the Rice with its Ingredients. Since we add Oil while cooking, The rice wont stick to each other and will be in a good shape for mixing with roasted ingredients.
  • With Ghee/Butter, Roast the Urad dhal, jeera and red chillies together  and then add Curry leaves
  • Lower the flame and then add the powdered pepper and roast for a minute
  • Add Cashews if you decide to have them in the recipe
  • Add the cooked rice with the Roasted mixture and mix well, Add salt as required.

It’s very simple, easy to cook and delicious as well. Try at home and leave comments.

Haven’t managed to take pictures, but will post them next time when I try it. Right now, Off to make a cup of tea for me. You don’t need the Recipe for it right!? 🙂
